Super Green Powders & Superfoods For A Healthier Skin

One of the questions we get almost weekly here at Curavita is –

Is your super green powder good for my skin?

It’s a great question, as it’s probably one of the benefits of taking super greens daily that maybe is over looked. In general, any supplement that provides overall health benefits will also likely have benefits for you skin. After all it’s the largest organ of our body. As with any product, you want to make sure you find super green powder reviews on that particular product before purchase.

Ingredients In Super Green Powders Known To Improve Your Skin

We added Spirulina to our green blend. It helps in removing heavy metals and toxins in the skin. We also included a good amount of wheatgrass. Many proponents claim it has natural anti-ageing properties, rejuvenates cells, and maintain skin elasticity.

One if the ingredients we really wanted to make sure we added to our blend was Inulin. Not least for the benefits it can have for your skin. A natural prebiotic, it can help with a range of skin care issues. There has been recent research showing how prebiotics help the skin.

Nutrients In Greens Than Improve The Skin

Vitamin A which is also known as retinol is a key cell growth regulator. It helps rebuild tissue and can reduce changes in the skin associated with the ageing process. Wheatgrass is high in Vitamin A.

Vitamin C is a well known powerful oxidant, and also helps tissues repair and grow. Vitamin C is important for the synthesis of collagen and elastin, which are both important to ensure your skin is supple and strong.

We use organic lemon powder, wheatgrass, and matcha green tea as important sources of Vitamin C in our blend. Matcha Green Tea is also a powerful antioxidant. It’t been used in South East Asian culture for 1000s of years and is thought to be a strong contributor to their smooth, “ageless” skin.

There have been studies (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21525260) that indicate that drinking green tea could improve the moisture, roughness, thickness, and elsaticity of the skin. One study over a 12 week period, showed drinking green tea daily could reduce the redness from sun exposure by up to 25%. THe sample size was 60 women.

Vitamin E also helps regulate retinol levels, and is well known for improving skin healing and smoothness. It’s also an anti-oxidant that fights free radicals. Green and super foods high in Vitamin E include spinach and wheatgrass, both of which are in our blend.

Natural antioxidants help fight the free radicals when our skin is exposed to environmental pollutants such as smog, and chemical particulate matter.

Collagen such as collagen peptides and hydrolysate are also widely used in supplement form as a way of improving and tightening skin on men and women of all ages. It also has added benefits of improving joint pain and other bone and joint related issues.

Tumeric is one of the most powerful anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory natural ingredients. The major element in tumeric is curcumin, which helps to assist in DNA repair after damage. Tumeric is one of the key super green powder supplement.

Infusing Superfoods and Prebiotics In Skin Care Products

Skin care manufactures have now gone one step further by actually infusing many of the above ingredients into their topical skin care products. According to an interview in Allure.com, Whitney Bowe, a professor of dermatology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and the author of The Beauty of Dirty Skin commented:

“Prebiotics are like the fertilizer or food that encourages certain bacteria to grow, probiotics are the live bacteria, and postbiotics are the chemical by-products of the bacteria or fragments of dead bacterial cells. I actually think the strongest skin-care products emerging on the market will be the ones with prebiotics. Some prebiotics encourage specific healthy strains of bacteria, and others increase the diversity of the bacteria on your skin, which is really important. When you remove that diversity, that’s when you see problems like rosacea, acne, fine lines, and discoloration. We are aware of a lot of effective prebiotics — like inulin and different types of fiber — for gut bacteria. For skin, minerals like selenium show promise, but we’re still discovering more.”

There is very strong evidence in both the science and anecdotal evidence from users that superfoods, super greens and prebiotics certainly have a beneficial effect on your skin in helping reduce the ageing appearance of skin.

By taking daily greens, and also using skin care products with these ingredients infused, you are giving your skin the best chance to look amazing for years to come.
